Institute for Democratic Education in America defines itself and builds a community
The Institute for Democratic Education in America (IDEA) works to restore the ‘public’ nature of ‘public education.’ They collaborate with young people, educators, and their communities to create a world where all students are engaged in learning that nourishes vibrant democratic communities.
Growing pains diffused potential
As a young non-profit, IDEA needed a communications plan to support its organizational goals. A vague identity, mission and target audiences had limited its efforts to attract new donors, engage its members and promote its policy agenda. It approached us for help because of our expertise in building online communities.
Strategic communications planning rooted in their mission
We began by assessing IDEA’s existing materials and efforts and interviewing their stakeholders. We gave advice on how to leverage their strengths and address their challenges. All of our ideas supported their communications and organizational goals.
A unified plan to streamline future efforts
Today, IDEA has greater clarity around its identity, the key challenges in its path, and a clear plan to move forward. It is growing an online community of education advocates that takes action at a local level and spreads IDEA’s vision across the country.
