Robert Wood Johnson Foundation matches communications support to grantees’ growth

As the nation’s largest philanthropy devoted to the public’s health, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) supports grantees in an array of causes, such as: fighting childhood obesity, improving healthcare access, and preventing violence. Since 2007, they’ve asked us to provide communications support to some of their most important grantees. The logic: helping grantees share their successes will inspire their peer organizations to adopt their pioneering models and attract additional funding.

Opening the bottle neck to opportunity

In 2010, Cure Violence, The Green House Project, and Playworks were outgrowing their social media programs. If these communications couldn’t keep pace, they risked missing future opportunities to attract new funding, announce important news, and strengthen ties with community partners.

An appropriate approach for each grantee’s circumstances

We tailored a plan for each grantee, including training, strategy, creative, and implementation. We organized webinars to share evaluation results, and supported their news with comprehensive social media strategies. We audited their websites, and taught each team how to engage and manage their communities.

Positive results for a promising future

After our engagement, each grantee’s social media’s presence reached farther with greater impact. Many have continued to grow, add more project sites, and serve more people.
